Service Description
As a BCBA, you probably already work with anxious clients or with clients who emit the same functional response classes of repetitive and compulsive behaviors as are found in OCD. If your graduate program and fieldwork did not prepare you to step up to these challenges, what are you supposed to do? Did you know that the behavioral roots of several contemporary, mainstream treatments for OCD, fear, and anxiety can be found in the work of our old friends Pavlov, Skinner, Ferster and Sidman? Getting back to the basics of the basics, through didactics and consultation, this course will take a fresh look at the history of behavior analysis, with a renewed focus on naturalistic, experimental and functional analyses of clinical phenomena, including their affective and cognitive concomitants. Grounded in that historical context, exciting new research becomes accessible while expanded opportunities for practice become possible. At the level of practice, special emphasis will be placed on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) from a Behavior Analytic perspective. Sessions will be organized as follows: (1) History and Philosophy (2) Theory and Research (3) Introduction to the practice of exposure therapy for fear and anxiety. (4) Introduction to the practice of exposure therapy for OCD. (5) Roleplay Day! (6) The absolute necessity of collaboration and consultation with allied mental health professionals and how to do that ethically and effectively. Class is 12-12:50EST, with optional consult/discussion from 1-1:30 (3 additional CEs possible) Intended Audience: Attendees: Beginner BCBAs; Beginner-Advanced for Non-BCBAs *Non-BCBAs (e.g. psychologists, social workers, counselors) are welcome to attend, though the behavioral language may be precise and technical at times. Cost: $375; There is an extra $15 fee for CEs. Scholarships or reduced prices are available for practitioners who belong to or serve marginalized communities. Please check our "For Professionals and Students" page to apply. Clinton D.
